OUR PROGRAM MODEL
THREE STRENGTHS.
FIVE PILLARS.
ONE MODEL.
Community-engaged research, knowledge preservation, partnerships, and public programs are not separate projects at AMWRRI. They are one connected body of work. Our program model shows how these pieces fit together, where we focus, and how partners and funders can help the work grow.
WHAT MAKES OUR WORK POSSIBLE
BUILT ON THREE STRENGTHS
Our work draws on three strengths that reinforce each other. Together, they are what allow community knowledge to be trusted, preserved, and shared.
01
COMMUNITY TRUST
Relationships with Arab and Muslim women and their communities, who help shape our priorities, questions, and interpretations from the start.
02
RESEARCH CREDIBILITY
Community-engaged research and oral history, preserved for scholars, students, and the public through academic and archival partners.
03
INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERSHIP
Collaborations with universities, museums, and cultural institutions that carry community knowledge further than any one organization could.
OUR FIVE PROGRAM PILLARS
HOW WE CREATE IMPACT
Together, the pillars show how we generate and preserve community-grounded knowledge, make it accessible, mobilize it through public learning and collaborative action, and connect identified needs with resources and opportunities.
01
COMMUNITY-ENGAGED RESEARCH
COMMUNITY-ENGAGED RESEARCH AND KNOWLEDGE PRESERVATION
We work with Arab, Muslim, refugee, migrant, and diasporic women to document lived experiences, oral histories, and cultural knowledge. Community members help shape the questions, the interpretations, and how their stories are preserved.
02
KNOWLEDGE MOBILIZATION & PUBLIC LEARNING
KNOWLEDGE ACCESSIBILITY, MOBILIZATION, AND PUBLIC LEARNING
We turn research into accessible resources, from briefs and guides to exhibitions and public programs, so community knowledge reaches the classrooms, institutions, and conversations where decisions are shaped.
03
CONVENING & COLLABORATIVE ACTION
CONVENING AND COLLABORATIVE ACTION
We bring together communities, universities, museums, and other partners to build meaningful collaborations, advance shared priorities, and translate research and community knowledge into collective action.
04
RESOURCE CONNECTION
& COMMUNITY SUPPORT
RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT, CONNECTION, AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT
What we learn points to real needs. We connect community priorities with practical resources, services, and opportunities for women and their families.
05
SCHOLARSHIP & PROFESSIONAL PATHWAYS
INVEST IN THE FUTURE
AMWRRI’s research showed that Muslim communities need more professionals in mental health, social work, and disability services. The Sinan Othman Scholarship supports Muslim students entering these fields, turning research findings into lasting change.
HOW IT CONNECTS
EACH PILLAR FEEDS THE NEXT
What we learn in community shapes what we share, who we convene, and the resources we connect people to. Those connections raise new questions, and the cycle continues.
01
GENERATE & PRESERVE
Knowledge starts with the community and its lived experience.
02
MAKE IT ACCESSIBLE
Research becomes resources people can find and use
03
MOBILIZE IT TOGETHER
Partners and communities act on shared priorities.
04
CONNECT TO RESOURCES
Identified needs lead to real support and opportunity.
